Rome, N.Y. - The names of the two people who died in a massive fire at an apartment complex in Rome Tuesday have been released.
Gary J. Wiedmann, 61, was found dead inside his apartment at Countryside Apartments at 7108 Rome-Oriskany Road, according to an Oneida County Sheriff’s Office news release Thursday night.
Christine M. Teuscher, 76, died at the burn center at Upstate University Hospital on Wednesday. She had run out of the apartment building with burns before collapsing in the snow, a city official said.
She was initially brought to Wynn Hospital in Utica but was transferred to Upstate University Hospital where she died.
A Rome firefighter also suffered an injury to one of their hands while fighting the fire that displaced 20 people. No other first responders were injured.
