SKAGIT COUNTY, Wash. — A more than century-old dike along the Skagit River is holding after near-record water levels this week , but concerns remain as 75,000 people across Skagit County continue to face evacuation orders amid fears of catastrophic flooding.
More than 100 people — about half of them children — are staying at one Red Cross shelter in Mount Vernon, and the agency is considering opening a third as impacts from one-two punch of an atmospheric river continue.
