As passengers continue to face flight cancellations and delays triggered by IndiGo’s ongoing operational crisis, new data presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday paints a stark picture of India’s aviation sector. Despite soaring demand for air travel, most airlines in the country continue to rack up heavy losses, signalling deeper structural challenges within the industry.
According to the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s written reply, IndiGo was the only major carrier to post a profit in the 2024–25 financial year. The airline earned Rs 7,253 crore, maintaining its position as India’s strongest aviation performer.
