DRY RIDGE, Ky. (WKYT) - Kentucky State Police will participate in the nationwide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” enforcement campaign from Dec. 10 through Jan. 1 as the holiday travel season begins.

The initiative aims to reduce impaired driving crashes during one of the busiest travel periods of the year. December historically sees a sharp rise in impaired-driving incidents, according to KSP.

Data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows December drunk-driving fatalities have reached their highest levels in nearly 15 years. One person is killed on average about every 42 minutes in a drunk-driving crash in the United States, totaling more than 12,000 lives lost each year.
