MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - A state-led initiative targeting dealers responsible for fatal overdoses has resulted in 58 arrests and 10 reckless homicide charges across southeastern Wisconsin since its launch last year.

The Overdose Death Initiative, created by the Wisconsin Department of Justice in May 2024, has investigated 21 cases while assisting 16 local and county jurisdictions with overdose investigations.

The program became an official High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas initiative in April 2025.

ODI investigators working with local law enforcement have seized multiple narcotics including fentanyl, cocaine, heroin, THC products, methamphetamine, psilocybin, MDMA and illegally obtained prescription drugs.
