MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The Rock County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents of a phone scam where callers are posing as deputies and pressure people to send them money.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the callers use fake names but give out real phone numbers associated with the department.

The caller requests money from the person in order to clear up a legal issue.

The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that it will never call residents and ask for money in order to clear a legal issue.

Anyone who has received suspicious phone calls is encouraged to the Rock County Communications Center at (608) 757-2244.
