Tens of thousands of residents have been ordered to evacuate their homes as catastrophic floodwaters threaten riverside and low-lying communities throughout Western Washington.

Communities in Skagit County, including Burlington, La Conner, Lyman, Hamilton and parts of Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley, were told to “Go Now” under a Level 3 evacuation order Wednesday. Areas of Orting, Puyallup and Sumner were also placed under Level 3 or Level 2 — meaning residents should be prepared to leave at a moment’s notice — evacuation orders.

First responders are going door-to-door to inform residents they must evacuate, and cellphone alerts have been issued.
