CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- Three of the five Democrats running for the 5th Congressional District seat have suspended their campaigns following Tom Perriello’s entry into the race.

Adele Stichel, a University of Virginia School of Law graduate; Kate Zabriskie, a Lynchburg executive coach; and Paul Riley, an Army veteran from Crozet, all announced they are stepping aside. The candidates said uniting early behind Perriello offers Democrats their strongest chance to defeat Republican nominee John McGuire in November.
