OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - Omaha lost an inspirational, civic, and political pioneer. Ruth Patrick Thomas’s impact on North Omaha and the entire city spanned several decades.
Daughter and granddaughter of Ruth Patrick Thomas, going through pictures and memories of a loved one they shared with an entire community.
“A community activist. Someone who was passionate about everything she did and whatever it was that she did she put her whole heart into it,” said Judith Thomas Alexander, daughter.
Early life and career
Mrs. Thomas graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1943. In that same year she married Francis Thomas. Mrs. Thomas was a house wife and worked in the family business at Thomas Funeral Home. She also found time to register people to vote.
