Redevelopment of the chawls located on Mumbai ’s mill lands can now proceed rapidly. Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced on Thursday in the Legislative Assembly that a decision has been taken to accelerate redevelopment projects that had been stalled for many years.

Many of the residential houses and chawls on mill lands are old and in dangerous condition. Therefore, their redevelopment has become essential, prompting this decision.

Shinde stated in his announcement that the government has decided to amend the regulations to encourage the redevelopment of old chawls on Mumbai’s mill lands. Special incentives will be provided for the redevelopment of old buildings and chawls on these mill lands.
