Shubman Gill has been “a bit too tight" since his return to the T20 format, as he has been trying to justify his place in the team, according to India’s assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate. The team management, however, wants Gill to play with the same freedom he displays in the IPL.
Gill rejoined the T20 setup during the Asia Cup in September, having previously led India to two notable Test victories in the drawn five-match series in England. He replaced Sanju Samson at the top order, but his lack of runs has raised concerns ahead of the T20 World Cup in India scheduled for February-March.
