Brush was too broad
The letter to the editor from Barry Roper in the Dec. 9 issue of the Democrat-Gazette mentions the problem of low letter grades of Arkansas schools. He talks about the results of the ATLAS test scores and how they can be predictable based solely on demographics. He goes on to say F and D scores were earned by schools with predominantly minority populations. I must admit, I had an automatic reaction to Mr. Roper's assertion; however, with all respect, his brush is quite broad and misses some details of which neither of us can enumerate in 300 words.
I find it difficult to argue with the outcomes in these schools, but there are complications to consider that go beyond the households from which the children come. I'm not a professional educator; therefore, I won't ventur
