Sanford Meridian used a fast start to give new coach Eric Krause a win in the girls basketball season-opener Thursday.
The Mustangs took a 40-7 halftime lead on their way to a 52-26 win over Ogemaw Heights to net the win for Krause, the former Midland High boys basketball coach.
Lily LaFave led Meridian with 25 points and six steals, with Kam Fillmore adding 14 points and five rebounds. Mariah Gaskell followed with five rebounds and four assists.
Brown City 43, Millington 24
Brooklyn Barden scored 11 points to pace Millington in the non-conference matchup. Morgan Matusik followed with seven points, while Ashlyn Bentoski and Kallie Stevens grabbed five rebounds each. Matusik and Stevens also had five steals each.
