Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant leaves the court after defeating the Los Angeles Clippers 112-107 at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, on Nov. 28, 2025.

Could Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant make his return to the starting lineup soon?

Morant has not played since the early minutes of the Grizzlies’ 108-100 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Nov. 15. He was expected to miss two weeks.

The guard had previously missed game time this season due to right ankle soreness and was suspended by the team for a game.

Morant and Zach Edey are two of the more notable players on the Memphis roster dealing with injuries. Here's the latest update on Morant’s injury situation:

Ja Morant injury update

Ahead of Friday's game against the Jazz, Ja Morant had been listed on the injury report Thursday, Dec. 11 as questionable with a right calf strain. But by early afternoon Friday, the Grizzlies upgraded Morant to probable, suggesting that he's on track to return to action against Utah.

NBA teams have been cautious this season with calf strains, opting to rest players for extended time over fears of the injury potentially being a precursor to more serious ailments like Achilles ruptures.

Morant had missed Memphis' last 10 games.

Who is Ja Morant's backup? Grizzlies' depth chart

Cam Spencer has served as a primary backup behind Morant. Spencer is averaging 11.1 points, 3.9 assists and 2.1 rebounds in 21.2 minutes per game through the first 24 games this season.
