A man killed his mother in a savage knife attack after suffering from schizophrenic delusions.
Daniel Cook stabbed his mother Ellen Cook, 72, more than 30 times in a brutal attack that ended in the street, where he carried on his attacks as she lay dying in the middle of the road.
Leicester Crown Court heard details of the killing for the first time today as Daniel Cook was sentenced for manslaughter. Three psychologists agreed he was suffering from schizophrenia and believed his mum Ellen Cook, 72, was a witch.
Cook, 39, had been living in Ashby at the time, where he ran a business selling books and other things online. He wanted to move back to his parents' home in Littlethorpe, near Leicester.
At a family dinner on Sunday, May 11, his mother announced that she didn't want her son moving back in with her and her husband, Russell, in Biddle Road, Littlethorpe, Leicestershire Live reports .
Later as they were in the living room and Ellen got up to go to the kitchen. Her son followed her shortly before Russell Cook heard his wife screaming "don't" repeatedly.
A horrified Mr Cook found his son holding a bloodied knife, standing over his injured mother who was kneeling in the garage. Cook approached his father with the knife but then stopped and said: "I'm not doing you."
When his father approached Cook, telling him, "don't do any more, Daniel, she is your mother," Cook knocked him down and his mother, bleeding heavily, made her way out into the street, crawling through the open garage door, followed by Cook.
Cook continued his horrific attack on the street, stabbing his mother with enough force to break two of her ribs despite a neighbour and his father trying to stop him. By that point multiple neighbours, watching from nearby and from their windows, had called the police
