The Oconto Christmas Parade promised to be delightful, but it turns out that the predicted weather was just too frightful.
What would have been the city's first Christmas parade in five years was canceled Dec. 10 as the National Weather Service projects the temperature will be 1 degree with a wind chill of -16 at 6 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13 when the parade was scheduled to kick off.
"My thought kind of was going off of the school rules, you know, they can't be outside if it's below zero," said Rebecca Schaible, the parade organizer. "So, I'm like, 'Well, if they don't let our kids outside below zero in general during the daytime, I can't imagine nighttime. It's just so cold, you know."
Schaible said 22 groups and organizations were signed up to take part in the parade. A float was not nece
