Cillian Murphy has admitted that his final day as Tommy Shelby in the Peaky Blinders movie was "completely underwhelming" due to the weather.
The Oscar-winning actor played the Birmingham crime boss in the TV series between 2013 and 2022, and he recently reprised the role for one last time in the upcoming movie, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man.
During an interview with Empire magazine, Murphy shared that the team saved "a really emotional scene" until last, knowing that it would be the final scene he filmed as his long-running character.
"We were on the side of a hill in the Peak District somewhere, in the p**sing rain, and we were losing the light. But it was a really emotional scene," he said, before noting that the filmmaking team drove off after shooting the scene instead of marking the momentous occasion.
"So it was absolutely, completely underwhelming," he added with a smile.
The Oppenheimer star also shared that he hasn't quite processed the fact that he's finished telling Shelby's story.
"I don't think I'm going to be able to process it or think about it until the film comes out, because I believe that a film isn't finished until people look at it," he explained.
The Immortal Man, which will be released in theatres and on Netflix in March 2026, sees Shelby return to Birmingham from his self-imposed exile amid the chaos of World War II in 1940.
Series creator Steven Knight, who wrote the screenplay, added that he wants the film to feel like "the end of a novel".
"It's the last few chapters of a long novel, where you get to round it off. And prepare people for what comes next," he teased, seemingly referring to the upcoming sequel series that will focus on a new generation of Shelbys.
The Immortal Man will feature returning Peaky Blinders star Sophie Rundle and Stephen Graham, as well as new additions including Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth and Barry Keoghan.
