December 12, 1941 - The cornerstone for Love Library was laid five days after America’s entry into World War II.

It’s named after Don Love, Lincoln mayor and banker who left his estate to establish the library.

However, before opening as a library, the building served as temporary barracks for troops training for the war effort.

Today, Love Library is the largest of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln libraries.
