It’s been probably 20 years since Susan Steves found a set of military dog tags while jogging through Bend’s Drake Park neighborhood. She held onto them until this year, when she gave them to me.
“I’m a disabled senior and my failing eyesight has kept me from being able to read the inscriptions,” Steves wrote to The Oregonian. “I’m the proud mother of a combat veteran. I would love to see them returned to their rightful owner or to that owner’s family.”
Returning lost jewelry has become a bit of a side hobby for me here at The Oregonian. So, I visited Steves to pick up the dog tags, where I was able to read the name on them: Marc Montgomery.
