The Fraser Valley has suffered another stressful night in the aftermath of an atmospheric river that overwhelmed local waterways, causing flooding, road closures and evacuation orders.

Road closures

The Ministry of Transportation and Transit closed Highway 1 from Sumas Way (Highway 11) in Abbotsford to No. 3 Road in Chilliwack due to floodwater.

Meanwhile, Highway 1 has reopened to the Interior, and so has the Coquihalla Highway. Highway 3 remains closed, with the ministry explaining nearly two dozen sections of the road have been washed away.

The Sumas-Huntington border crossing also remains closed as much of the floodwater comes from Washington state’s Nooksack River.
