MONROE, La. (KNOE) - On the heels of a highly contested presidential election, the Florida Supreme Court ordered a hand count of the ballots to determine which candidate would receive the state’s electors.

On Dec. 12, 2000, the United States Supreme Court ruled a 5-4 decision on Bush v. Gore.

They determined the recount procedure would not meet constitutional standards.

It ended the recount and gave the electors, and the election to George W. Bush.
