AUSTIN, Texas — Jessica Beck remembers the exact moment her life shifted.
In February 2024, she suddenly dealt with the worst pain of her life. By the end of the day, doctors told her what she never expected to hear: she had leukemia.
“We weren’t sure if I was going to survive the next three days,” Beck said. “That’s how advanced my cancer was at that moment.”
The diagnosis came with an urgent warning.
“The doctor said, 'You can go get a second opinion, but if we don’t start you on treatment right now, you’re not going to survive,'” Beck said.
What followed was months of aggressive chemotherapy – a cycle of brief improvement, followed by more hospital stays.
“In the moment, I wasn’t aware, but looking back, I was knocking on death’s door and I had no idea,” she said.
