It is ridiculous to have to say this, but here goes: My wife is a medical-surgical nurse, and she’s a professional.

I mention this not to seek her approval — she is unaware that I am writing this — but because I find it absurd that the U.S. Department of Education has chosen to exclude nursing from its definition of " professional degree " programs.
