The Immigration Department is testing a digital visa with features that officials say will help detect fraud, spot tampering and reduce administrative costs.

The visa is an electronic version of the current physical visa or counterfoil placed in a traveller’s passport, and the secure and verifiable digital record can be stored in a digital wallet on Apple or Android mobile devices. Visa holders are required to present it to airlines and border officers for verification.
