The air quality in and around Freehold Borough has improved following a large fire Thursday at a scrap metal yard, local officials said.
The fire broke out around 3:15 p.m. Thursday at Beacon Scrap Metal on Throckmorton Street and triggered “excessive smoke” and road closures, officials in the Monmouth County borough said.
Borough police said the fire was causing “poor air quality” and that residents were advised to keep doors and windows closed and limit outdoor activities.
The air quality in the borough was listed as “fair” on Friday morning and is expected to improve later in the day, according to AccuWeather.com .
AirNow.gov also said air quality in Monmouth County is expected to be good on Friday.
