Jim Demos — the venerable patriarch of the family known for it beloved Demos’ Restaurant — died Dec. 10.

Demos’ Restaurant specialized in steak, seafood and spaghetti dishes. The family opened a downtown Nashville location in 1989 and then relocated in 1982 to a space located at the intersection of Commerce Street and Third Avenue North. The business closed in late 2020, a casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Demos’ Restaurant stills operates in Hendersonville, Lebanon and Murfreesboro.
Jim Demos — known to family members as “Papou” — teamed with his wife, the late Doris Demos (who died in 2009), to create the family-friendly restaurant concept.
