President Donald Trump shrugged off a major defeat on Thursday after Indiana Republicans rejected his redistricting push to add more GOP-leaning seats to the House of Representatives.

Indiana Republicans rejected a redrawn congressional map on Thursday that would have favored their party. Trump had pushed for Indiana Republicans to approve the measure, even reportedly threatening to withhold funding for the state if they voted against it.

But despite Trump’s repeated calls to pass the new maps, the president said that he actually did not try that hard to get the new maps approved.

“I wasn’t working on it very hard. Would have been nice. I think we would have picked up two seats if we did that,” Trump told reporters when asked what his reaction was.
