Two opposing plans to address Covid-era insurance subsidies set to expire at the end of the year were shot down by senators Thursday, the latest development in an ongoing congressional battle that’s put soaring health care costs at the center of the political arena.

Unless Congress reaches an agreement – an idea that’s looking more like a long shot with each passing day – Montanans who purchase health insurance through the marketplace are expected to see some of the biggest price jumps in the country.

A 60-year-old making $62,757 per year is projected to see a monthly premium increase of $1,025. A 40-year-old earning the same amount would see an increase of $247.
