Ashley Card didn’t want to get left behind when her two older brothers started racing.

Now she’s the one leaving others in the dust.

The Sombra native celebrated her 16th birthday last weekend by winning two state titles at the American Motorcyclist Association’s Ohio amateur supercross championship.

“It went really well,” said Card, a Grade 11 student at Wallaceburg District secondary school. “It surprised me. For my first time doing supercross, I rode really well and I picked up the track quick. The track conditions were really good.

“I picked up a bunch of wins, too, for Canada, so that was good.”

She’s the Ohio state champion in the 11- to 16-year-old girls and 12-and-over women’s classes. She also won two pit bike classes against a field of boys.
