WASHINGTON, D.C. — In a rare break from President Donald Trump and House Republicans, U.S. Rep. Pete Stauber voted to nullify an executive order and restore bargaining rights to approximately 1 million federal employees.
The congressman from Hermantown was one of 20 Republicans to join House Democrats in voting for the bill, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday with a 231-195 vote.
The bill, which faces hurdles in the Senate and from Trump himself, would reverse an executive order Trump signed in March that would bar unions at dozens of federal agencies because of their work on sensitive “national security” issues. The bill would also restore any collective bargaining agreements that existed before the executive order.
