MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa —
The Animal Rescue League of Marshalltown has temporarily stopped taking in animals after two recently adopted puppies tested positive for parvovirus.
All puppies were vaccinated and appeared healthy at adoption, but the shelter is now undergoing full sanitization and working closely with its veterinarian to ensure best practices.
“While we cannot control every circumstance, we can control how we respond,” Executive Director Austin Gillis said. “By acting quickly, transparently and with veterinary guidance, we want to demonstrate our commitment to animal safety and public trust, and to reassure the community that we are taking every possible precaution.”
