JACKSON, Mich. (WILX) -The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents and local businesses about a new scam involving official-looking documents that appear to come from Jackson County Government Offices.
The fraudulent documents are formatted to look like official invoices or urgent notices and instruct recipients to make payments via wire transfer, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.
Sheriff Gary Schuette said the County of Jackson will never request payment by wire transfer, nor will it demand electronic transfers through email-based or mailed invoices.
