NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah on Friday said V D Savarkar was never given the recognition he deserved for his efforts to eradicate untouchability, as RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat unveiled a statue of the ideologue. At a programme in Sri Vijaya Puram marking 115th anniversary of Savarkar's song Sagara Praan Talamala, Shah said he fought against evils within the Hindu society, undeterred by the opposition. "This is a big day as a life-size statue of Veer Savarkar has been unveiled, and that too by the Sarsanghchalak who advances Savarkar's ideals in the truest sense," he said.
