A man was stabbed several times after trying to de-escalate an altercation outside a Chicago fast food restaurant Friday morning, police said.

Around 8:30 a.m., a 24-year-old man was stabbed multiple times at a Burger King on the 6400 block of West Irving Park Road in Chicago's Dunning neighborhood, authorities said.

He was inside the restaurant when he tried to de-escalate an altercation, authorities said. He was then stabbed by a person who was later taken into custody.

The stabbing occurred outside the restaurant, according to police.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where authorities say he was initially listed in critical condition.
