BATESBURG-LEESVILLE, S.C. - The Batesburg-Leesville Police Department has arrested a suspect in connection with a Wednesday officer-involved shooting .

Police said Friday that New York resident Ronnie Mizell, 31, was arrested and charged with assault and battery in the second degree, failure to stop for blue lights and obstruction of justice.

He’s charged after an officer was hit by a vehicle and police fired on two suspects during a traffic stop Wednesday in Batesburg-Leesville.

The confrontation happened after the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division notified local law officials that two individuals in a Honda Accord were trying to pass counterfeit money at local liquor stores.
