FARGO — A conditional guilty plea was filed Friday, Dec. 12, by attorneys in the case of Carson Quam, the former Cass County sheriff's deputy accused of ten counts of possession of child sexual abuse materials.

The plea agreement said prosecutors will drop half of the counts against Quam, 26, and he will enter a conditional plea of guilty to counts one to five, with a recommended sentence of 18 months in prison, registration as a sex offender, and three years of supervised probation.

Quam's plea is conditional based on a rule of North Dakota criminal procedure that allows a defendant, with the approval of the court and the consent of the prosecuting attorney, to enter a guilty plea while preserving the right to appeal a prior adverse determination in the case.
