A man who was previously sentenced to death will spend 30 to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally shooting a hip-hop artist outside a Lancaster County concert venue more than 15 years ago.
On the night of May 7, 2010, Jakeem L. Towles, who is now 36 years old, shot and killed 20-year-old rapper Cornell Anton “Young E-Z” Stewart in Columbia, according to the county district attorney’s office.
After being kicked out of the venue on the first block of North Fourth Street for starting a fight , Towles opened fire on a group of people outside. Stewart was fatally struck in the head during the gunfire.
Towles, who was 20 when the shooting took place, was sentenced to death after a 2012 trial found him guilty of first-degree murder and related offenses.
