CALCASIEU PARISH, La. — A kennel cough outbreak has forced at least one boarding facility in Southwest Louisiana to temporarily close its doors, with some local veterinarians reporting a spike in cases. Some also told 7News that they came from multiple boarding facilities in the area.
Black Bayou Boarding in Calcasieu Parish temporarily closed after what owner Taylor Bellon described as a dramatic increase in sick animals.
“It just got to be a dramatic amount of numbers. So I said, the best thing that we could do for everyone is close our doors right now,” Bellon said.
The facility, which Bellon started in 2017, is currently boarding only a handful of dogs whose owners had no other options. On Friday, they scrubbed the stall areas with brushes and squeegees to sanitize the facility.
