The dream season for No. 2 Iowa has reached its conclusion.
The Yellow Jackets capped off an undefeated season with its first state championship in program history with a 50-43 win against top-seeded North DeSoto in the Division II non-select title game at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Friday.
Iowa (14-0) has come close to making its state title game debut the last four seasons, with three appearances in the semifinal round. The Griffins (13-1) had knocked off the Yellow Jackets in the semifinals in 2022 and quarterfinals in 2023.
It’s been a steady climb for Iowa the last 25 years. The program did not have its first winning season until 2000 and has compiled a 55-10 record the last five years with four-straight district championships.
