A 19-year-old man who was critically injured in a vehicle crash early Wednesday has died, Maui police said today.
Mason Pang, of Makawao, was driving a 1998 Toyota Tacoma east on Haleakala Highway in Pukalani at about 12:14 a.m. Wednesday when a black 2020 Honda Ridgeline made a left turn from Old Haleakala Highway to head west on Haleakala Highway and crashed head-on into the Toyota.
Pang sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and was transported to Maui Memorial Medical Center, where he died around noon Thursday, according to the Maui Police Department.
The driver of the Honda, identified as 31-year-old Kaleo Kubo, fled on foot, police said. The passenger of the Honda, a 32-year-old Wailuku woman, sustained multiple injuries and was taken to Maui Memorial Medical Center, MPD sa
