BRISTOL, Conn. — Hoosier State superstars were in the spotlight during the College Football Awards on Friday as Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza won the Davey O'Brien Award and Notre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love was named the Doak Walker Award recipient as the best players in the country at their positions.
Both players are also among the four finalists for the Heisman Trophy, which will be presented tonight.
Mendoza is the first from Indiana to win the Davey O'Brien since it was initially presented in 1977.
He beat out fellow Heisman Trophy finalist Julian Sayin of Ohio State, as well as Texas A&M's Marcel Reed for the award.
