CLEVELAND — A man died by suicide Friday afternoon as police and U.S. marshals attempted to arrest him in Brooklyn on a charge of attempted murder in connection to an early-morning shooting.
According to a release from the Marshals Service, 24-year-old Dionte Hawthorne broke into a Northridge Oval apartment, shot a man twice and threatened to shoot a woman before fleeing the apartment sometime before 6 a.m. Friday.
Brooklyn police contacted the Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force to notify authorities that Hawthorne was a fugitive on attempted murder charges.
Members of the task force traced Hawthorne to a home on Scovill Avenue in Cleveland's Central neighborhood. Officers knocked on the door and spoke with two women who confirmed Hawthorne was inside the home. As off
