NEW ORLEANS, La. (KALB) - Jena’s historic first trip to the State Championship Game ended in disappointment Friday as the Giants fell to defending State Champions, the Sterlington Panthers, 34-20.
The Giants brought the fight for three quarters, but ultimately could not match the Panthers’ offensive output.
Jena’s offense continued their streak of opening drive touchdowns, scoring on their first two possessions of the game. However, the Giants could not reach the end zone again until the final seconds of the contest.
The growth of the Jena program was put on display for the entire state to see, despite not capturing the trophy they hoped to leave with.
Key seniors will graduate for the Giants this spring, including McPherson, Wilson and Cooper.
