PALESTINE, Texas — Dates have been set for hearings where evidence will be considered in the case of East Texas death row inmate Robert Roberson.
On Friday, both the state and Roberson's defense team met with the presiding judge, 114th District Court Judge Austin Reeve Jackson, over Zoom to talk about scheduling for the case going forward.
This comes after the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals stayed Roberson's execution based on Texas' 2013 junk science law, sending the case back to the trial court in Anderson County.
The state will have a deadline of Feb. 6 to submit a response to the defense's filing that led to Roberson's stay of execution. Then, Jackson will review documents from the state and defense on Feb. 27 to determine if an evidentiary hearing is needed, Jackson said.
