Friday turned into a blockbuster evening in the NHL , as after weeks of speculation , the Vancouver Canucks finally made the move many expected. Star defenseman and team captain Quinn Hughes was traded to the Minnesota Wild. The Wild acquired Hughes in exchange for Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium, Liam Ohgren, and a 2026 first-round draft pick, completing one of the biggest deals of the season.

The move came as a surprise because for weeks, Hughes was strongly linked with the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings. Minnesota was rarely mentioned in trade talks, which made the final announcement even more shocking.

Hughes’ departure marks the end of an era. He becomes only the third Canucks captain in the last 30 years to be traded.
