Authorities on Saturday imposed Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the national capital as air pollution spiked sharply, pushing the overall Air Quality Index close to the 400 mark and plunging large parts of the city into thick smog.

The stricter curbs were enforced with immediate effect after residents woke up to a hazy, smog-filled morning, signalling a rapid deterioration in air quality over a short span of time.
