The Washougal School District recently held its first Night with the Authors event, which connected five young aspiring writers with seven local and regional authors.
The event at Washougal High School aimed to foster creativity in students interested in creative writing and publishing opportunities, said Kathy Sloop, the district’s highly capable program coordinator.
“I think it went well,” Sloop said. “The authors normally work a lot with adults, so it was really enriching for them (to work with kids), but it was also equally enriching for the students. They got an opportunity to have an open conversation, and it was a teachable moment for them.
