For the second-straight season, Somerset senior Kris Hughes has been named the Commonwealth Journal Football Player of the Year to cap off a stellar career. Hughes, who recently was named the overall Class 2A Player of the Year and a candidate for Kentucky Mr. Football, took over at quarterback at the beginning of the season and had a tremendous year, claiming multiple records at Somerset High in the process.

Hughes went 71-119 through the air for 1,092 yards and 11 touchdowns against four interceptions. His biggest contribution was on the ground, rushing for 2,081 yards on 232 attempts with an impressive 37 touchdowns. Hughes also had 37 tackles on the defensive end of the ball and had two interceptions.
