Miss Finland Sarah Dzafce was stripped of her title Thursday, just weeks after competing in the Miss Universe pageant, following backlash over a racially charged social media post.

Dzafce, 22, appeared in a photo pulling the corners of her eyes with the caption “kiinalaisenkaa syömäs,” which roughly translates to “eating with a Chinese person,” in a post from late November.

The image circulated on the anonymous German app Jodel and was shared by a friend who allegedly added the caption without Dzafce’s knowledge, the Helsinki Times reported.

Dzafce initially said she was suffering a “severe headache” and was rubbing her temples.

Crowned Miss Finland in September, Dzafce faced swift criticism for the shocking gesture, which many viewed as offensive to the Asian community.
