The Cabinet has approved ₹ 11,718.24 crore for Census 2027, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Friday, December 12, during a press briefing in New Delhi.
According to Vaishnaw, the Census will be conducted in two phases and will incorporate digital technology.
Phase 1 will comprise House Listing and Housing Census from April to September 2026.
And the Phase 2 will consist of Population Enumeration in February 2027.
"Census 2027 will be the first ever digital census. The digital design of the census has been made keeping in mind data protection," Ashwini Vaishnaw said.
The decision was taken during the Cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on December 12.
